Relationship Difficulties

We are raised to believe in the fairytale version of romantic relationships, where happiness comes from meeting and uniting with a life partner and that simply being in love is enough to keep our relationships happy and healthy. Unfortunately, this is far from true. While we seek love and connection in our relationships with others, most if not all of us eventually realise that we are all very real people with real problems and that our issues almost always manifest in our relationships. We may struggle with intimacy, sex, control, fidelity or jealousy. We may act out in anger or find ourselves feeling completely isolated, controlled, resentful and even checked out. The list of problems that occur within our relationships is extensive and facing those problems through couples therapy can be crucial to resolving our pain within human relationships and within ourselves.

Today, we turn to one person to provide what an entire village once did - a sense of grounding, meaning, and continuity. At the same time, we expect our committed relationships to be romantic as well as emotionally and sexually fulfilling. Is it any wonder that so many relationships crumble under the weight of it all?
